Youth-led agricultural innovation in Ghana takes center stage at the AgriTech Challenge Pro
2025 AgriTech Challenge Pro Empowers Ghana's Agriculture Sector
The 2025 AgriTech Challenge Pro, a joint initiative by the Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) and Mastercard Foundation, recently took place at KNUST Business School. Over two days (May 22-23), 43 teams pitched their innovative ideas to a panel of judges known as the Ideation Team.
The event showcased a range of ideas aimed at reshaping Ghana's agricultural sector and creating jobs. These ranged from tech-based farming tools to eco-friendly food innovations.
Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director of KIC, stated that this year's Challenge Pro showcased the brilliance and resilience of Ghana's youth. The winners of $25,000 in the challenge are PureLube, while Peanut Pride, Millbles, BIAQ Golden Cycle, Soyko Agro Foods, GardPath Technologies, Peli Natural Glow, MilkyWorld, Growth Line Farm-Tech, and Premium Biofert each won $5,000. Zenags Organics, Mushplus Agri-Foods, MelDak Agro, AgriEase, Fibrelux, Tomavi Wines, Congam Stainless Charcoal, Danny Machinery, EcoLeap, BioSpace Gh, and Earth-Allies each won $10,000, and the winners of $20,000 are Ecobroma.
The AgriTech Challenge Pro has a significant positive impact on the agriculture sector, job creation, and economic growth by catalyzing youth-led agribusiness innovation. The Challenge identified and onboarded 22 innovative startups into a structured incubation program, focused on developing agritech solutions that aim to reshape Ghana’s agricultural landscape.
These startups introduce new technologies and business models that enhance food security and address real-world challenges in farming and food systems. By transforming innovative ideas into scalable agribusinesses, the program contributes to job creation, especially for youth. KIC’s work has already trained more than 58,000 young leaders in business and entrepreneurship skills related to agriculture, preparing them to build sustainable ventures that provide employment opportunities.
The seed funding (ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 per winning team) and incubation support help startups become investor-ready and ready to scale operations, which stimulates economic growth through new businesses, increased productivity, and contribution to Ghana’s agribusiness ecosystem. Winning startups like Mushplus Agri-Foods demonstrate the competitive and innovative spirit encouraged by the Challenge, potentially leading to further economic development.
In sum, the 2025 AgriTech Challenge Pro promotes innovation-driven transformation in Ghana’s agriculture by empowering youth entrepreneurs, creating jobs, and fostering sustainable agribusinesses that contribute to national economic development.
