Yahoo Sports to Initiate Unpaid Television Streaming Debut
Yahoo Sports Launches New Free, Ad-Supported Streaming TV Channel
Yahoo Sports has entered the world of streaming TV with the launch of its new channel, the Yahoo Sports Network. Operated by C15 Studio, this innovative platform is set to reach a new generation of sports fans who are more at home in digital realms than traditional ones.
The channel will feature highlights from major sports leagues such as the NFL, NBA, MLB, and combat sports, as well as original programming. Some of the shows that will be part of the programming include "The Kevin O'Connor Show," "Football 301," "Network with Rich Kleiman," "The Ariel Helwani Show," "Yahoo Sports Daily," "Inside Coverage," "Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey's College Football Enquirer," and "Yahoo Fantasy Forecast."
Live shows will make up a significant portion of the programming, with the number of live hours growing from a few hours a week to 60 hours. The Yahoo Sports NFL insider program, "Inside Coverage," is streaming live for the first time with new host Andrew Siciliano, and a new live Monday through Friday morning program, "Yahoo Sports Daily," has recently launched with Jason Fitz and Caroline Fenton.
Ryan Spoon, president of Yahoo Media Group, stated that the goal is to "reach the fan where he or she is." The company that operates Yahoo Sports Network is Yahoo Inc., a subsidiary of Verizon Communications through its media division. The channel is backed by Apollo Global Management and Verizon.
In addition to its own content, the Yahoo Sports Network will also include content from partners such as OneFootball and Motorsport Network. The channel will be available on LG Channels and Sling Freestream, and will launch on Samsung TV Plus, Amazon Fire TV, Fubo, Plex, Prime Video, and The Roku Channel over the coming weeks. Yahoo Sports fans can access the channel on yahoosports.tv, a new home for Yahoo Sports video.
The programming on the Yahoo Sports Network is expected to continue growing, with the company bringing shows such as Josh Pate's "College Football Show" to its platform. With this new venture, Yahoo Sports aims to put all of its sports programming under a single umbrella, making it easier for fans to access and enjoy the content they love.
