Personnel director Gunnar Kilian confirmed at a works meeting in Wolfsburg that approximately 20,000 employees have already entered into contractual agreements for their departure. This strategic move is part of VW's broader restructuring aiming to significantly reduce indirect personnel costs. The company is offering various options such as early retirement, retirement regulations, and termination agreements to facilitate the process.

Out of these options, two-thirds of the employees are opting for early retirement, according to the Bild newspaper. While the severance amount—ranging up to 400,000 euros for long-serving employees—depends on the length of service, employees choosing early retirement or retirement regulations will not receive additional compensation.

VW is determined to achieve its goal of chopping off a total of 35,000 jobs in Germany by 2030. The next phase of the plan targets the large birth cohorts of 1969 and 1970. With more than a quarter of the 130,000 jobs set to go, this restructuring push will significantly reshape the company's workforce.
