Work on the stadium persists; closure of the central crosswalk at Stadium Place scheduled for August 8
The upcoming week will see some changes in pedestrian traffic around the Raynor Avenue lot at Syracuse University, as sidewalk replacements along the east boundary are scheduled to take place.
From Friday, Aug. 8, to Tuesday, Aug. 12, the center crosswalk along the east boundary of the Raynor Avenue lot will be closed. During this period, all pedestrian traffic to or from the Raynor lot must use the north crosswalk at Van Buren Street and Stadium Place or the south crosswalk at East Raynor Avenue and Stadium Place.
This work is related to the ongoing campus steam distribution system project, which is being carried out by multiple entities, including CenTrio Energy. The temporary bridge in the East Campus area, near the Raynor Avenue lot, will also be removed as part of these operations.
The steam distribution system construction started around May 2025 and is planned to finish by June 2027, as part of broader campus steam system upgrades. The project's schedule includes seasonal closures to prioritize repairs, typically coordinated with summer campus steam outages.
For up-to-date and precise details on alternate pedestrian routes, it is recommended to consult the university’s campus planning or facilities management communication channels. They will provide maps and safety guidance during the steam system construction closure.

The work on the campus steam distribution system is taking place in the West Campus area, more specifically in the Raynor Avenue lot. Campus Planning, Design and Construction, CenTrio Energy, and local contractors are working on this project.
Please be aware that this work may affect the accessibility of the crosswalk and the sidewalks in the Raynor Avenue lot. It is advisable to plan your route accordingly and allow extra time for your journey during this period.
- As the steam distribution system construction ongoing in the West Campus area, especially in the Raynor Avenue lot, it's possible that the upcoming week's changes in pedestrian traffic may have an impact on adjacent industries such as finance, requiring employees to adjust their commuting routes during the sidewalk replacements and crosswalk closures.
- Given the closures of the center crosswalk along the east boundary of the Raynor Avenue lot and the temporary removal of the bridge in the East Campus area, there might be noticeable disruptions in transportation flexibility around Syracuse University, possibly affecting not only pedestrians but also local transportation services that rely on these routes for efficient service.
