The properties were jointly owned by the communal housing administration Weißenfels (WVW) and the Weißenfels/Saale housing cooperative (WBG) until about two years ago, when the WBG sold its share to Lekova 12 GmbH, now Accentro Dessau Wohnen GmbH.
Eric Stehr, deputy state chairman of Die Linke in Saxony-Anhalt and city councilor in Weißenfels, is on site and has described the situation as a "cold eviction." He believes that everything happening in this context seems very planned, as the area has been a problem area for years, and the residential blocks have been scheduled for demolition for a long time.
Stehr has also pointed out that pollution problems are partly due to the tenants, inactive landlords, and external persons contributing to the littering. He has initiated investigations and inquiries in the city council, but received reassurances that the problem would solve itself.
