Wind sector faces mounting worry over potential job losses

In a recent development, Daniel Friedrich, the district leader of IG Metall Küste, has voiced his criticism towards the German government's wind energy plans. Friedrich highlighted the challenges the wind industry is currently facing, including restructuring, job cuts, and skilled labor shortages. He called for planning security and a clear political course to protect jobs and production in Germany.

Furthermore, the Federal Minister of Economics, Katharina Reiche (CDU), announced a review of state funding for the expansion of renewable energies. However, Daniel Friedrich, head of IG Metall Coast, criticised Reiche's plans, stating they are a disservice to the expansion of renewables and the industry in Germany.

The annual survey conducted by the Hamburg metal union IG Metall Coast about job cuts in the wind industry has revealed that more than every third company (35 percent) expects more jobs to be cut than created within the year. Last year, the survey involved union representatives from 30 companies, but this year, it only involves works council representatives from 23 companies.

The survey, conducted by the consulting firm Betriebsrat-Consulting, shows the wind industry in Germany is facing major challenges. The union continues to criticise the politics for the growing concerns about job cuts in the wind industry.

In the two previous years, a negative employment trend was only expected in about every fifth company. However, this year's survey indicates a more pessimistic outlook for the industry. Each company fills out one questionnaire in the survey.

As the wind industry grapples with these challenges, IG Metall Küste continues to advocate for a clear and secure political course to safeguard jobs and production in Germany. The union's annual survey is an important tool in highlighting the industry's struggles and pushing for necessary changes.
