Herwart Wilms, a well-respected figure in the waste management and environmental services sector, has been elected as the new President of the European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD). This marks a significant milestone for the federation, as Wilms is the first waste management professional to hold the position since 2012.

Wilms' election was a unanimous decision by the federation, and he will officially begin his term on January 1, 2026. His term will last for a duration of two years, ending in the year 2028.

As FEAD President, Wilms will be responsible for leading the federation’s efforts in advocating for sustainable waste management policies, promoting circular economy principles, and representing the sector’s interests at the European level. His leadership aims to advance environmental protection by improving waste treatment practices and fostering innovation in recycling and resource efficiency.

Wilms brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked in the waste management industry for many years. He is currently the CEO of REMONDIS Sustainable Services and the Vice-President of the BDE. In his previous role as FEAD’s Vice-President, he worked closely with the former FEAD President, Claudia Mensi, for three years.

Mensi, who worked closely with Wilms during his tenure as Vice-President, praised his expertise, influence, and commitment to environmental services and sustainable development. Under her leadership, the federation made significant strides in promoting waste prevention, recycling, and responsible resource management throughout Europe.

Wilms' election as FEAD President highlights his achievements, including fostering collaboration among industry stakeholders, engaging with EU institutions, and supporting the implementation of policies that encourage sustainable waste management practices. He is well-positioned to build on the foundation laid by Mensi and continue the federation’s work in promoting a more sustainable and circular economy.

As Wilms takes over as FEAD President, he is poised to make a significant impact on the waste management industry in Europe. His expertise, leadership, and commitment to environmental protection make him an ideal choice to lead the federation in its efforts to promote sustainable waste management practices and advance the circular economy.

With his extensive background in the waste management industry, Herwart Wilms, now the president of FEAD, is expected to revolutionize the federation's finance and business strategies, aiming to bolster sustainable waste management policies and stimulate the circular economy. Given his successful tenure as Vice-President, Wilms' leadership is anticipated to contribute significantly to the European waste management and finance sector, fostering innovation and environmental protection.
