Upcoming prolonged lockdown in the heart of Braunschweig

In the heart of Braunschweig, construction works on Helmstedter Straße have commenced on August 18. The project, which is expected to last approximately a year, is part of the Veloroute Schoppenstedter Turm initiative.

The initial phase of the construction will involve the renewal of utility and disposal lines. This essential work is necessary to ensure a solid foundation for the upcoming changes. Following this, the sidewalks and roadway will be renovated, and the street will receive its own bike lanes, enhancing the city's cycling infrastructure.

For motorists, there will be temporary changes to traffic flow. Motor vehicle traffic from the Ring into the city centre will be detoured via Jasperallee. Initially, it will be possible to turn left from Kastanienallee into Helmstedter Straße towards the Ring, but a one-way street regulation applies for this turn. However, emergency vehicles will still be able to pass through the area during construction.

The city of Braunschweig has announced that the adjacent properties, including commercial businesses, will remain accessible throughout the construction period, possibly via temporary sidewalks. The street between Steintorwall and Kastanienallee will be closed to motor vehicle traffic during construction, but access to these properties will be maintained.

Later in the construction period, Kastanienallee will become a dead-end street. Despite these changes, the city assures residents and visitors that the construction works are a significant step towards improving the urban landscape and promoting sustainable mobility.

For more updates on the construction progress, residents and visitors are encouraged to follow the city's official news channels. The city of Braunschweig remains committed to keeping the public informed throughout the construction period.

The city's plans for Helmstedter Straße extend beyond utility work and road renovation, as they also include the integration of bike lanes to boost the city's cycling infrastructure. In the realm of finance and investment, the construction project is anticipated to stimulate the local industry, contributing to Braunschweig's economic growth.

In the transportation sector, motorists should expect temporary traffic flow alterations along Jasperallee, as an alternative route for motor vehicles from the Ring into the city centre during the construction on Helmstedter Straße.
