Unveiled: Shelby's Swift Super Snake-R, Packing a Punch for Enthusiasts

The automotive world was abuzz with excitement at the Monterey Car Week in California, where Shelby American unveiled its latest creation – the Shelby Super Snake-R. This new sports car, based on the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, has been specifically designed for racing tracks and has attracted the attention of automotive enthusiasts and experts alike.

The Shelby Super Snake-R boasts a substantial power boost, thanks to a supercharged Gen 4 Ford Coyote 5.0L V8 engine that produces over 850 horsepower. This powerhouse can be paired with either a six-speed Tremec manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission.

To handle this increased power, the Super Snake-R features a fully adjustable coil-over independent suspension with metal spherical bearings for precise handling and chassis stiffening. The suspension improvements, coupled with new staggered magnesium alloy wheels sized 20"x11" front and 20"x13" rear, help reduce rotational mass by about 36.75 pounds total, improving traction, stability, and braking.

For braking performance, the Super Snake-R is equipped with two-piece slotted brake rotors designed to handle the increased power and heat generated on the track. The exterior of the car also benefits from carbon fiber aero components, including a vented aluminium hood, carbon fiber splitter, widebody fenders, and a tall rear spoiler. These components increase downforce and stability at high speeds, enhancing the car's performance on the track.

Weight management is another key aspect of the Super Snake-R's design. The car features a rear seat delete to save weight and increase chassis rigidity, contributing to its total weight of approximately 1816 kg, or 53 kg more than the Ford Mustang Dark Horse it is based on. Despite this weight increase, the Super Snake-R is only about 116 pounds more than the Mustang Dark Horse due to the extensive weight savings measures implemented.

The interior of the Super Snake-R reflects its track-focused nature, with track-focused interior upgrades including leather and Alcantara with serialized plaques. The Super Snake-R is the most aggressive model in Shelby American's lineup, and it is slightly more powerful than the standard Super Snake.

The Shelby Super Snake-R is priced at a starting price of $224,995, making it an attractive option for serious track enthusiasts seeking a powerful and agile sports car. With its blend of power, handling, and aerodynamics, the Shelby Super Snake-R promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience on the race track.
