Starting from January 3, 2025, Munich's night public transport network will undergo significant changes due to the extension of the U-Bahn (subway) service. This development promises to enhance coverage and connectivity during weekend and holiday nights.

Key adjustments include the operation of the U-Bahn all night on Fridays to Saturdays, Saturdays to Sundays, and before public holidays. Specifically, lines U2, U3, and U5 will run every 30 minutes, while lines U1, U4, and U6 will also run every 30 minutes but 15 minutes offset from the other group. This results in a subway every 15 minutes in the city center during these nights.

The Nachtbus (night bus) lines continue to operate mostly at a 30-minute frequency, with some lines such as N19, N27, N40, and N41 even running every 15 minutes in sections. However, some night bus routes on weekend nights have been adjusted to avoid redundancy with the U-Bahn service where the subway now runs overnight.

For instance, night bus N45 will now only run between Karlsplatz (Stachus) and Waldperlach on weekend nights, with the section between Karlsplatz (Stachus) and Münchner Freiheit replaced by U3 and U6. Similarly, night bus N41 will serve the section between Harras and Fürstenried West on weekends, replacing the northern section by U2 and U3. The route will be extended to provide an additional connection to U3 at Forstenrieder Allee on all operating days.

The night tram lines maintain their unchanged schedule, operating every 30 minutes with a coordinated meetup every 30 minutes at Karlsplatz (Stachus). Notably, the route of night bus N76 will be adjusted in the area of Petuelring/Olympia-Einkaufszentrum, running via Georg-Brauchle-Ring and Olympia-Einkaufszentrum instead of Oberwiesenfeld, providing a connection to night tram N27 and U1 at OEZ.

To optimize transfers between the night U-Bahn, Nachtbus, and Nachttram lines, MVG recommends using their journey planner tools (MVGO app or website) for the best connection information.

In the city center, a U-Bahn vehicle will be available every 15 minutes in each direction, ensuring seamless travel for late-night revellers and early morning commuters alike. The first night with the new schedule is from Friday, January 3rd to Saturday, January 4th.
