Uncovered: Drivers Aware of Car Insurance Knowledge through OSAGO

A recent survey of 2,000 internet users has revealed a gap in understanding between Russian motorists regarding OSAGO and KASKO, two essential types of car insurance. Only 45% of respondents correctly identified OSAGO as "compulsory motor third-party liability insurance," while only 38% knew the specific difference between the two.

The survey found that younger respondents (aged 18-24) were less knowledgeable about the risks that OSAGO covers compared to older respondents. Around 40% of this age group correctly understood the risks that OSAGO covers in case of an accident, while older respondents (aged 45-54) showed the highest level of knowledge, with 62% correctly identifying the risks.

OSAGO is mandatory for all drivers and covers compensation for damage caused to others in an accident. It is important to note that OSAGO does not cover damage to or loss of one's own vehicle. This is where KASKO comes in, which covers such damage, regardless of fault.

The preferential OSAGO program offers incentives for careful driving and supports social groups by lowering insurance costs. This program typically includes the Bonus-Malus System, adjustments based on driver age, driving experience, region of vehicle registration, vehicle type, and usage, as well as discounts for special groups such as drivers with disabilities or special needs, veterans or government employees, owners of electric or environmentally friendly vehicles, and young drivers with good driving history.

However, the search results do not provide detailed official parameters or updated coefficients and discounts for 2025. To find the latest information, it is recommended to consult the latest official documentation from the Russian Ministry of Finance or the Russian Association of Motor Insurers (RAMI).

It is also worth mentioning that the possibility of fully compensating the cost of OSAGO is available when purchasing a used car with a mileage of up to 16,000 km in the Select service from Avito in Moscow, Moscow region, St. Petersburg, and Leningrad region.

To obtain OSAGO, one must contact a licensed insurance company, either in person or online. It is crucial for all drivers to have a clear understanding of their insurance coverage to ensure they are adequately protected on the road.

The survey also highlighted a general lack of understanding about other types of insurance beyond OSAGO and KASKO, among Russian internet users. For instance, only 35% of respondents were aware that finance industry can provide insurance coverage for business-related activities, while only 33% understood the role of transportation insurance in protecting against losses or damages to goods during transit.
