Uber and Bolt guarantee that their Romanian drivers are appropriately contributing taxes and social security payments as per the law
In a recent article, Ziarul Financiar made claims that drivers working for ride-hailing operators in Romania are evading taxes and social security contributions. However, the Coalition for the Digital Economy, a group consisting of companies operating in the digital economy sector, including Uber, Bolt, Glovo, Wolt, Bringo, and Lime, has disputed these claims.
The Coalition has affirmed that drivers either register as freelancers (PFA) or have employment contracts with alternative transport operators. In both cases, they pay all required taxes and social security contributions legally.
To ensure transparency and compliance, alternative transport platform operators submit detailed monthly reports (Declaration D397) to Romanian authorities. These reports include a wealth of information, such as the number of kilometers driven, identification data of drivers, and details about the transport companies involved.
These reports serve as a means for the authorities to monitor the economic activities carried out through the platforms. By submitting these reports on a monthly basis, the operators are demonstrating their commitment to transparency and accountability.
Contrary to Ziarul Financiar’s claim, ride-hailing drivers in Romania are compliant with tax and social security obligations, either through their freelance status or through employment by alternative transport companies. The Coalition for the Digital Economy has reiterated its stance, stating that its members are committed to upholding the law and contributing fairly to the Romanian economy.
