Transport Authority Collaborative Checks: Cooperation between the Transport Department and the Road Regulatory Office
In the heart of Düren city center, on March 7th and 8th, 2025, a joint operation between the Düren Traffic Department and the Düren Road Traffic Office took place. The aim was to ensure the safety of passengers using taxis and rental cars in the area.
During the operation, a total of 5 vehicles were checked. Two journeys were ended immediately due to safety concerns, while other defects were reported for the remaining three. One rental car was found to lack a calibrated odometer, causing the passengers to disembark and continue their journey on foot.
The checks involved inspecting drivers, vehicles, and their technical equipment requirements, as well as necessary vehicle permits. However, the operation did not provide information on any penalties or fines issued during the checks.
In another instance, a 58-year-old taxi driver from Hürtgenwald was found to have had his passenger transport authorization revoked due to unsuitability. The checks were not a one-time event, as the Düren Police has announced that they will continue to conduct these checks in collaboration with the Düren Road Traffic Office in the future.
