Tram Services Resume Possibly Tomorrow on Wuhlheide Bridge - Trams' operations are likely to recommence the following day.

Berlin's Wuhlheide Bridge: Partial Reopening for Trams, Emergency Services Expected Tomorrow

Emergency services, trams, and other vehicles are expected to be able to pass below the unstable Wuhlheide Bridge in Berlin-Oberschöneweide as early as tomorrow, according to the latest reports. This development could alleviate the current traffic disruptions and improve the situation for emergency services and transit in the area.

The bridge, a 245-meter-long structure, has been completely closed to traffic, including vehicles passing underneath, since last Monday. This has affected trams, cyclists, and pedestrians. The bridge had already been closed to traffic since late April due to increasing cracks that were discovered during regular inspections by the transport authority. Demolition of the bridge began on Saturday.

Currently, trams are operating in an isolated mode beyond the bridge. However, as early as tomorrow, this island operation is expected to come to an end. Security personnel will reportedly open barriers in emergencies and allow rescue, fire, and police vehicles to pass through the track connection. The Berlin Transport Authority plans to start with a shuttle service tomorrow morning and potentially transition to regular operation as early as this weekend.

The partial reopening of the Wuhlheide Bridge, initially planned only until June 6, 2025, is subject to construction progress and weather conditions. While some tram services have resumed with alternative arrangements, the area remains partially restricted. The entire demolition site is scheduled to be completed by June 27, 2025, although there is no explicit timeline for when regular tram operation over the bridge will be fully restored. Emergency access and tram mobility will remain limited until further notice.
