Train Service between Kazan and Ekaterinburg to Commence in June, Catching Drivers Off Guard

Ready to hit the road! The M-12 highway from Kazan to Yekaterinburg set to open in June

Good news for travelers! The long-awaited M-12 highway from Kazan to Yekaterinburg is expected to open in June, according to an insider from "Avtodor." This exciting development connects Sverdlovsk Oblast, Perm Krai, Bashkortostan, and Tatarstan, promising a convenient route for the estimated 7-hour journey between the two cities.

As reported by "Novy Day," active acceptance of objects is currently underway on the federal highway stage. There's a chance the first drivers on the new route will benefit from a small but sweet perk – free passage on the road for several weeks. While this hasn't been officially confirmed, drivers themselves have speculated that the road will be completed on time and testing may commence with speed limits due to minor incomplete work, such as lighting, surveillance cameras, and barriers.

Historically, newly constructed highways in Russia sometimes offer a temporary period of free passage (several weeks to a few months) to encourage usage and ensure operational conditions. Although official announcements confirming such a policy for the M-12 Kazan to Yekaterinburg leg have yet to be published, this practice is not unheard of.

Expectations for the speed limit during the initial testing phase are around 110 km/h, with local variance in construction zones or until final safety checks are completed. This would be consistent with other Russian highways like the M-11, although official details about the M-12 have yet to be released.

Exciting road work is also underway in Sverdlovsk Oblast on the Tyumen highway, set to become two-lane in both directions with an expected completion by the end of 2026, making it part of M-12.

Whether you're heading to Kazan from Yekaterinburg or vice versa, prepare for a smooth journey on Russia's new M-12 highway!
