Tobacco Manufacturer Syktyvkar LPC Reveals Production of Over 1.7 Million Cigar Units
Stocking the Vychegda River with 1.7 Million Sigs: A Huge Step Toward Biodiversity and Economic Stability
Last June 10, JSC "SLPK" made a massive stride in fish conservation as they released over a staggering 1.7 million young sigs — a commercial fish species — into the Vychegda River. This event was a collaborative effort between JSC "SLPK", the Ministry of Agriculture, regional offices, and the Federal Fisheries Agency.
According to Vladimir Druzhkov, General Director of JSC "SLPK", this release sets a new record for their river-stocking efforts in Komi, spanning a dozen years. Over those years, they've released approximately 4.5 million sigs, along with other valuable species like grayling, sterlet, and nelma, into the Pechora, Vychegda, and Mezen rivers.
These young fish were carefully reared at the "Forvat" fish farm before being transported to Komi in temperature- and oxygen-controlled containers. Before hitting the river, they passed through thorough inspections to ensure they hit the requisite weight. Post-inspection, wide plastic tubes were hooked to the containers, and the young sigs were eased into their new river home, swept along by the current.
Now that they've adjusted, the young sigs will grow until they reach maturity in about four years. At this stage, they'll start reproducing, replenishing the population and eventually fueling local economies. With these efforts, JSC "SLPK" is not only bolstering the sig population but also supporting aquatic biodiversity and maintaining a balanced freshwater ecosystem.
This initiative highlights JSC "SLPK's" commitment to advanced aquaculture practices and ecological management strategies. It also provides valuable data on hatchery-release programs, fish growth rates, and survival in natural waters.
In essence, the release of these 1.7 million young sigs offers invaluable benefits for biodiversity, fostering sustainable fishing opportunities, and contributing to the region's economy. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a healthy, robust fishery in the Vychegda River!
The collaboration between JSC "SLPK" and various agencies released over 1.7 million young sigs into the Vychegda River, a move that marked a significant contribution to both environmental-science, with a focus on aquatic biodiversity, and finance, as this initiative fosters sustainable fishing opportunities in the region's industry.
