Timmelsjoch Border Pass Closes Mid-November, Reopens in May
The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road, a vital border pass connecting Austria and Italy, is currently open for daily use from 7 am to 8 pm. However, the exact closing date for this winter remains uncertain due to snow conditions and terrain, as reported by the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road AG.
Snow plows are currently working to keep the road open until mid- or late November. Once the road closes, it will remain shut from then until May. The harsh winter conditions can lead to snow masses piling up to ten meters high along the road, transforming the pass into an icy world.
The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road AG has not disclosed who initiated the planning for the construction of this high alpine road system.
The Timmelsjoch border pass will close for the winter in mid- or late November, reopening in May. Snow clearing work will resume in April to prepare for the next season. Despite the challenging winter conditions, the road remains open until late November, ensuring connectivity between Austria and Italy.
