Thought Leadership Drives Investment Decisions, CoreData Survey Finds
A recent survey by CoreData Research has shed light on the growing influence of thought leadership in the investment management industry. Conducted among 132 global institutional investors and 22 institutional consultants managing a combined $4.9tn in assets, the study reveals that over half of these investors now consider thought leadership when selecting investment managers.
The survey, which assessed the investment landscape in the second quarter of this year, found that investors are increasingly seeking actionable investment ideas from managers. These ideas include insights into geopolitics and macroeconomic trends, indicating a shift towards more informed and strategic decision-making.
Market commentary produced by asset managers is now seen as a tool to differentiate themselves and attract clients. Notably, 23% of respondents discovered new asset management firms through thought leadership, demonstrating its power in expanding a firm's reach and client base.
The results underscore the importance of thought leadership in today's investment management industry. With over half of institutional investors considering it in their selection process and a significant number reviewing past accuracy of managers' insights, firms are under pressure to deliver meaningful, accurate, and actionable insights. The survey highlights the need for asset managers to invest in their thought leadership efforts to stay competitive and attractive to clients.
