In a surprising turn of events, a removal company has been left empty-handed, having missed out on over half a million euros found during a house clearance job. The Cologne Regional Court, in a recent judgment, ruled that the removal company had no claim to a share of the money or a finder's fee, according to a statement released by the Court.

The removal company, based in Bavaria, was hired to clear out an apartment situated in the state. Amid the clutter, their employees stumbled upon a whopping sum of over 600,000 euros, hidden in unusual places like diaper packages. Alongside the cash, jewelry and coins worth approximately 30,000 euros were discovered.
The removal company brought forward a claim for a payment of 100,000 euros and a finder's fee, citing a clause in the service contract that stated valuable items should be removed beforehand, and any remaining items would become the property of the company upon commencement of work.
However, the Cologne Regional Court deemed this clause unfair and invalid. The Court believed the removal company could not assume the homeowner intended to hand over cash and valuable items valued in the hundreds of thousands of euros. Moreover, there wasn't a claim for a finder's fee, as the removal company didn't discover a lost item.
This judgment, as of early May, is yet to be finalized.
