The 2026 Toyota bZ4x boasts extended range, amplified power, emergence of NACS, and a streamlined moniker.

The much-anticipated 2026 Toyota bZ is set to make its debut in North American dealerships in the second half of 2025, bringing significant improvements over its previous version. The compact electric SUV has undergone an update, changing its name to a simpler version, and is poised to make a strong impact in the electric vehicle market.

Key Features and Improvements

Performance Boost

The 2026 bZ offers a quicker 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds for the fastest all-wheel-drive (AWD) model, compared to 6.5 seconds in the 2025 version. AWD trims now feature 375 hp (280 kW), up from lower outputs previously, while front-wheel drive (FWD) models also see increases up to 221 hp (165 kW).

Battery Upgrades

A larger 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery is standard on most trims (except base XLE FWD, which uses a 57.7 kWh battery). This results in a range up to approximately 314 miles (505 km), improved from prior smaller capacity packs.

New Trims and Options

The bZ Woodland trim, an AWD-only, higher-performance variant with 375 hp, has been introduced, along with a lower-cost, shorter-range battery option for urban drivers.

Interior Enhancements

The interior of the 2026 bZ features a redesigned dashboard and a larger 14-inch Toyota Multimedia touchscreen. The plastic frame separating the steering wheel from the digital gauge cluster has been removed, and physical knobs for volume and climate control have been added, improving user convenience.

Exterior Redesign

The exterior of the 2026 bZ has been given a facelift, with the adoption of Toyota’s new “Hammerhead” front fascia styling, replacement of black plastic overfenders with color-matched panels, sharper LED headlights, a full-width rear LED light bar, and a floating roof design enhancing aesthetics and aerodynamics.

Chassis and Handling

The 2026 bZ boasts a more firmly tuned suspension for a more direct driving experience, with independent MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. Steering effort has been reduced, though one-pedal driving remains absent but includes four regenerative braking levels controlled by paddle shifters.

Charging Improvements

Faster charging capabilities compared to the previous version make the vehicle more practical for daily use.

Market-Specific Features

In the U.S., select FWD models equipped with the larger 77-kWh battery pack offer up to 314 miles (505 km) of range. Canadian models come standard with SofTex-trimmed seats, a heated steering wheel, dual wireless phone chargers, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of advanced driver-assist technologies.

The 2026 Toyota bZ is redesigned to be more competitive in the compact electric SUV market, addressing previous shortcomings in acceleration, range, interior usability, and styling. With the adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing access to Tesla's Supercharger network, and a new battery pre-conditioning system improving charging times in harsh winter conditions, the 2026 bZ is well-positioned to challenge other electric vehicle offerings.

Pricing for the 2026 Toyota bZ will be announced closer to launch. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new electric vehicle!
