2025 Japan Mobility Show (JMS) Set to Redefine Mobility Technology

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) has announced the return of the Japan Mobility Show (JMS), scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 9, 2025, at Tokyo Big Sight. This year's event will be held jointly with CEATEC, a comprehensive exhibition of digital innovation, showcasing Society 5.0.

Building on its tradition as one of the world's premier car shows, the 2025 JMS will continue to focus on the latest developments in mobility technology, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and motorcycles. Visitors can expect concept cars, world debuts of new vehicles, hands-on experiences including test drives, and demonstrations of future vehicle engineering and passenger safety technologies.

However, a key difference compared to previous years is the emphasis on broader notions of mobility rather than just automotive vehicles. This aligns with Japan’s national vision of a “super smart society” (Society 5.0) integrating ICT, cyberspace, and physical space, which aims to advance futuristic, accessible, and sustainable mobility solutions beyond traditional car transport.

The JMS will also serve as a co-creation platform for sparking new businesses. Chairman Masanori Katayama (Isuzu) aims to create future-shaping businesses through this year's JMS, with a vision of mobility companies acting as problem solvers in regard to various societal issues. The event will feature 150 startups and 50 established companies, providing opportunities for startups and established companies to communicate, both at the venue and online.

In addition, the 2025 JMS will feature the Future Mobility Forum, where JAMA's chairman and vice chairmen will discuss their visions and challenges in working towards a mobility-based society. Chairman Katayama has expressed hope for working together with CEATEC to build a prosperous, promising future. He also wants to include reverse pitching in this year's JMS, where established companies and startups work together to co-create and sincerely address challenges.

The JMS will promote new partnerships with startups and established companies exhibiting their technologies and services. Chairman Katayama aims to create an event that brings all kinds of people together, following in the footsteps of the previous year's chairman, Toyoda, who aimed to create an event that encourages collaboration and innovation.

The Mobility Show, formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show, will now run annually, with the 2025 event being the first under its new name. The show will take place between October 15 and 18 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, as opposed to its usual location at Tokyo Big Sight.

The 2025 JMS aims to be more focused on the business side, providing a platform for startups and established companies to showcase their innovations and collaborate on solving societal challenges. With its expanded scope and focus on sustainability and community revitalization, the 2025 JMS is set to redefine mobility technology and pave the way for a smarter, more connected, and more sustainable future.
