More electric cars newly registered - Market share 19.3 percent - Tesla's German EV Sales Dip as Overall Market Surges

In September 2025, Germany witnessed a significant shift in its vehicle market, with a notable decline in registrations for Tesla stock and a surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales overall. Tesla, once the dominant force in German EV registrations, experienced a 9.4 percent decrease in new registrations in September 2025 compared to the same month last year. This dip comes as the overall market for EVs continues to grow. Nearly one in five new cars registered in September 2025 was an electric vehicle, marking a 32 percent increase from the same month in 2024. The total number of newly registered electric cars in September 2025 reached 45,500, with August 2025 seeing around 39,400 registrations and a 19 percent market share. While Tesla once held the top spot, the Chinese manufacturer BYD has been making significant strides in the stock market today. In September 2025, BYD registered over 3,000 new vehicles, indicating a rising presence in the German market. Despite Tesla's decrease in registrations, the overall EV market in Germany continues to flourish, with a growing number of electric vehicles on the road and increasing competition from manufacturers like BYD, driving news in the automotive landscape.
