Tesla broadens its Full Self-Driving (FSD) transfer initiative, now encompassing regions in Europe and the Middle East.

Tesla has made a significant move in the automotive industry by expanding its Full Self-Driving (FSD) transfer program to Europe and the Middle East. This marks the first official international expansion of the program beyond North America.

The FSD transfer program, which allows Tesla owners to transfer their existing FSD capability from one Tesla vehicle to another, initially launched in North America prior to 2025. However, until recently, the program was only available to owners in North America.

The expansion of the program is a direct response to repeated requests from Tesla owners in Europe, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has acknowledged the demand from European customers. The program is now live in Europe and the Middle East, and it applies to all Tesla models eligible for FSD in these regions.

The process for transferring FSD capability remains the same as in North America. Buyers place an order, choose to transfer FSD from a linked vehicle in their Tesla account during delivery, and the software is deactivated on the old car and activated on the new one within a few days.

This development is significant as Full Self-Driving is still not yet launched in Europe. Despite regulatory challenges, Tesla is taking steps to balance patience with customer goodwill by allowing transfers before full legal deployment.

The FSD transfer program offers a reward for European buyers' early investment in autonomy. It's worth noting that the offer allows owners to transfer FSD to a new vehicle, but it was initially limited to orders through September 2023 or the end of the third quarter. However, the program has since returned several times and now appears to be becoming more permanent.

While China is not yet included in the FSD transfer program, regulatory challenges are likely the reason for the delay. Tesla's referral program offers three months of Full Self-Driving (FSD) to new buyers who use a referral link.

Despite delays in European approvals for FSD, Tesla is demonstrating its commitment to its customers by expanding the FSD transfer program. This move is likely to be well-received by Tesla owners in Europe and the Middle East, who will now be able to retain and transfer their FSD software when purchasing a new Tesla, avoiding the need to repurchase the expensive package.

The FSD transfer program, which initially operated solely in North America, has been extended to Europe and the Middle East, catering to the demand of Tesla owners in those regions. This development allows Tesla owners in these regions to retain and transfer their Full Self-Driving (FSD) software when purchasing a new Tesla, thereby avoiding the need to repurchase the expensive package (refer to [5]). Meanwhile, regulatory hurdles continue to delay the rollout of FSD in China, preventing it from joining the FSD transfer program at the moment (refer to [2]).
