Alert! Traffic Changes Ahead on A93

Starting June 26th, there'll be some changes for the traffic coming from Munich and heading towards Regensburg at the Pentling rest area. The exit for the former and the entrance for the latter will be temporarily closed until early August and mid-October, respectively, as announced by Autobahn Südbayern.

The sudden shutdown is due to an extensive road surface renovation in the rest area's vicinity. This overhaul includes breaking up the direction lane towards Regensburg, as well as the entrance and exit lanes leading through the construction site since early April. Thankfully, the exit towards Pentling rest area from Regensburg and the entrance towards Munich/Holledau will remain unaffected.

In recent years, an increasing number of damages have plagued the road surfaces. To avoid severe closures, these surfaces are being thoroughly renovated. Preparations for the work were made in 2021 and 2022, with the primary operations commencing in 2023. The western lane (direction Munich/Holledau) was the first to go under the knife, followed by drainage facilities in the median and bridge repairs in 2024.

From early April to mid-December 2025, the eastern lane (direction Regensburg/Hof) between the Saalhaupt triangle and the Regensburg-Süd junction will experience a similar transformation, along with the renewal of drainage pipes and, ultimately, the application of an asphalt pavement.

During the works, traffic on the A 93 will be channeled in both directions on the Munich-bound lane until mid-December. From June 26, it won't be possible to exit the B 15 onto the A 93 towards Regensburg at the Saalhaupt triangle, with drivers advised to take a detour via A93 towards Holledau/Munich, then make a U-turn at the Hausen junction. Similarly, transferring from A 93 coming from Munich onto the B 15 towards Landshut at the Saalhaupt triangle will be restricted.

Now, if you're looking for alternative routes to navigate around the construction, here are a couple of options:

  1. For traffic heading towards Regensburg, consider using the A9 and B2 or the A92 and B8, both of which can help bypass the affected stretch of the A93.
  2. In certain instances, local roads like the ST2138 might be recommended for short detours around Pentling.

Remember tofactor in extra travel time due to lane reductions and detours. Stay updated with traffic signs, electronic boards, and navigation apps for real-time traffic updates and detour instructions as you approach the Pentling rest area.

The renovation project will impact the automotive and transportation industries, as the A93's exit for Regensburg will be closed from June 26th to early August, causing delays for commuters and freight transport. The finance sector might also be affected, as businesses reliant on prompt deliveries between Munich and Regensburg may face increased costs due to extended travel times and detour routes.
