Taxi Industry's Future Discussed at European Film Festival Event in Bonn
The European Film Festival of Generations recently showcased 'In the Taxi with Madeleine' in Bonn, sparking discussions on the taxi industry's future. Key stakeholders, including the Association of Public Transport North Rhine (FPN), the Association of Private Road Passenger Transport NRW (VSPV), and the Taxi and Rental Car Association Germany (TMV), met with political decision-makers at an event hosted by 'unternehmer nrw'.
The event, attended by Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Karl-Josef Laumann, Vice-President of the Landtag Christof Rasche, President of 'unternehmer nrw' Arndt G. Kirchhoff, and around 20 MPs from different parties, centred around minimum fares and framework conditions in taxi traffic. The associations pushed for a uniform guideline initially in North Rhine-Westphalia, aiming for nationwide implementation.
Topics discussed included unfair competition by platform providers like Uber, social dumping and tax evasion, the future of public transport taxis and accessible taxis, rural area supply, fixed prices, and technology-open drives. The representative of the Taxi and Mietwagen Association Germany at the parliamentary evening talk in September 2025 remained undisclosed.
The event highlighted the need for regulation and uniformity in taxi traffic, with minimum fares and framework conditions under scrutiny. Stakeholders and political figures engaged in productive discussions, aiming to shape the future of the taxi industry in North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond.
