Successful Debut of Digital Identity Verification in Austria

In a significant leap forward for digital identity solutions, the Austrian ID Austria app, developed by youniqx Identity - a digital subsidiary of the Austrian our website (OeSD) - has introduced a new digital identity credential. This innovative development is set to transform the way Austrians and Liechtensteinians interact with digital services, whilst also complying with European Union regulations such as the eIDAS 2.0 framework.

The digital identity credential, now available within the ID Austria app, offers a host of advanced features designed to enhance security, usability, and efficiency. These include electronic signatures for secure and legally valid online documents, secure login and authentication for seamless access to digital services, and biometric authentication options for added security.

The app also facilitates digital administrative procedures, document management services, and batch signatures for enterprises. Cross-authority registration and data forwarding ensure a smooth user experience, without the need for multiple logins.

Compliance with the EU's eIDAS 2.0 regulation is a key aspect of the ID Austria app. It supports qualified electronic signatures (QES), secure and privacy-respecting authentication methods, cross-border recognition, and user control over usage history and consent management.

The success of digitalization efforts in Austria and Liechtenstein, as demonstrated by the activation of over 1.2 million digital documents, provides a strong foundation for future supranational EUDI solutions. The digital identity credential, which serves as a digital ID card and is recognised as a valid proof of personal identity throughout Austria, is a testament to the effectiveness of youniqx Identity's approach.

Helmut Lackner, CEO of youniqx Identity, emphasises the company's commitment to delivering secure and user-friendly digital solutions for nationwide digitalization and future EUDI projects. The digital identity credential, designed to be scalable for use in supranational EUDI solutions, is intended to be used throughout the EU as an official means of personal identity verification in the future.
