Street-wide Lockdown Starting on Monday: Hallische Street
Magdeburg Prepares for Multiple Tram Line Disruptions Starting June 2
starting next week, the city of Magdeburg will experience significant changes in its public transportation system. Due to construction work by Deutsche Bahn, the railway bridge over Hallische Straße will be fully closed from June 2 to June 20, affecting numerous tram lines and causing three weeks of disruptions.
In addition to the previously announced closure of the bridge over Damaschkeplatz, the Hallische Straße underpass will also be closed to all types of traffic, further complicating commuting. As a result, passengers will have to find alternative routes to navigate the city center.
The last remaining east-west tram connection will be the Warschauer Straße with a connection at the Buckau S-Bahn station. However, not all lines can be rerouted due to lengthy detours, insufficient vehicle reserves, and limitations at the Buckau station.
For passengers from Diesdorf and Stadtfeld, an alternative route via Damaschkeplatz / Adelheidring / ZOB and continuing through the main station to the Hauptbahnhof / Willy-Brandt-Platz stop will be available. Passengers from Olvenstedt, Sudenburg, Leipziger Straße, and Reform can still reach the city center without changing.
Adjustments to departure times for all lines will be implemented, and the lines 1 and 4 will be divided and connected to each other. Line 1 will be split into two sections, with one running from Sudenburg via Südring and Westring to Damaschkeplatz / Adelheidring / ZOB and continuing as line 4 via the Olvenstedter Platz to the Klinikum Olvenstedt. The other section of line 1 will run from Kannenstieg to Alter Markt and continue as line 4 to Cracau. The line 3 will be in operation between Diesdorf and Olvenstedter Platz via Damaschkeplatz / Adelheidring / ZOB and will be increased to a 10-minute interval. The line 5 will resume its regular route between Klinikum Olvenstedt and Messegelände via Südring, S-Bahnhof Buckau, and Hasselbachplatz and will continue to run at a 20-minute interval. The line 6 will remain shortened between Herrenkrug and Hauptbahnhof, and the line 9 and 10 will bypass the closure via the S-Bahnhof Buckau.
A replacement bus service with buses of the line 47 will be established for the stops Jordanstraße, Halberstädter / Leipziger Straße, and Am Fuchsberg. It will operate between Südring and Porsestraße via S-Bahnhof Buckau, where it is possible to change to lines 5, 9, and 10. The bus lines 59, N3, N4, and N5 will bypass Hallische Straße via the Carl-Miller-Straße.
The Hallische Straße is expected to be reopened for tram traffic by Saturday, June 21, 2025, allowing for better and faster connections.
Passengers are advised to check the Magdeburger Verkehrsbetriebe (MVB) website or app, visit the official MVB customer center, or call +49 391 5360-0 for the most accurate and up-to-date information about tram or bus line changes due to construction on the railway bridge over Hallische Straße in Magdeburg. Rerouting options, such as temporary stop closures, replacement buses, rerouting of lines, and alternative transport recommendations on the MVB website or app, are common during major construction projects like this. Passengers are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys during the construction period and check for service alerts and route maps on the MVB website or app.
In light of the forthcoming transit changes, passengers may need to consider alternative routes within the city, as the Hallische Straße underpass will also be closed, increasing the complexity of commuting. Other industrial sectors, such as finance, may want to take note of these disruptions in public-transit transportation, as they could impact employee schedules or accessibility.
