Improved Traffic Safety and Mobility Enhancements Planned for Oberkassel's Central Traffic Axis

Mayor Stephan Keller has expressed optimism following a positive public feedback on plans to permanently improve traffic safety and quality of stay along the central traffic axis in Oberkassel. The plans involve the installation of permanent bike lanes and charging zones, among other changes.

Environmental Director Jochen Kral highlighted the enthusiastic response from locals to the recent implementation of temporary bike lanes. He underscored the significance of this development as a step towards attaining equal mobility within the city.

Permanent bike lane markings will replace the existing ones, and bike crossings will be painted red for enhanced cyclist visibility and safety. Additionally, adjustments will be made to the newly introduced charging zones, with the time restriction extended from 7 am to 6 pm. During off-peak hours, these zones can be used as regular parking spaces.

In the second phase of the project, scheduled for 2025, the connections to Belsen and Luegplatz will be optimized. Furthermore, a revised bike lane crossing on Barbarossaplatz from Arnulfstraße/Schorlemerstraße to Luegallee will be implemented. The northern side bike lane will also be removed during this phase of renovation.

For more detailed information on the project, interested residents are advised to check the city's official website, attend local public consultations, follow local news sources, or contact the transport or urban planning department directly. Local cycling associations can also provide insights into bike infrastructure projects.
