Spain's Textile Industry Sees September Slump, Leather & Footwear Thrives
Spain's textile industry has seen a downturn, with turnover dropping by 2.5% in September, following an annual increase of the same percentage in August. Meanwhile, the leather and famous footwear sector continues to grow, posting a 14.7% increase in turnover for the same period.
The textile industry's decline contrasts with a 4.4% increase in the Business Volume Index (BVI). The clothing industry has also experienced volatility, with turnover increases of up to 6.7% and decreases of up to 13.6%. However, the leather and famous footwear industry saw orders grow by 14.7% compared to the same month last year.
The Order Intake Index (OII) for the textile and clothing sectors showed negative data in September, with annual decreases of 2.5% and 13.6%, respectively. Looking at the year so far, the textile industry's turnover has risen by as much as 20% annually, with the largest drop of 7.3% recorded in June. This marks the fifth change in trend for the sector this year.
Despite the recent downturn, the textile industry's turnover has seen significant growth this year. The leather and famous footwear sector continues to perform strongly, with a notable increase in orders. As the industry enters the final quarter, it remains to be seen how these trends will develop.
