Solar Energy Venture in Fairfield County, Ohio: Carnation Solar Project
In the heart of Amanda Township, Fairfield County, Ohio, a potential solar revolution is brewing. Geronimo Power, a leading name in the development of solar and wind power in the United States, is proposing the Carnation Solar Project, a 142-megawatt solar farm that, if approved, will span approximately 1,700 acres.
The proposed project, which includes the installation of 347,000 photovoltaic panels and associated infrastructure, is currently under regulatory review. Despite local opposition and a county-wide ban on new solar developments, the Carnation project is eligible for approval due to being grandfathered under the state siting law.
If given the green light, construction could commence as early as the spring of 2026 and last through the end of 2027. The solar farm is expected to start producing electricity in late 2027 or early 2028.
Geronimo Power has been making strides in the Ohio renewable energy sector, with the recent completion of the 120MW Ross Solar Project and the 47.5MW Fayette Solar Project. The Carnation Solar Project would join these projects, as well as the Yellowbud Solar project in Ohio, in Geronimo Power's growing portfolio.
In line with its commitment to local partnerships, the Carnation Solar Project will be in partnership with local landowners. The project team is currently focusing on engaging the local community, ensuring transparency and addressing concerns as the regulatory process unfolds.
As the decision on the Carnation Solar Project draws near, the community awaits the Ohio Power Siting Board's final decision, hopeful for the potential economic benefits, agricultural diversification, and clean energy that the project promises.
