SES Revolutionizes Airports with 'Comms on the Move' Solutions

SES, a leading global satellite operator, is expanding its services to revolutionise airport operations. The company, known for its inflight connectivity, is now exploring 'comms on the move' solutions for ground operations. This includes connecting autonomous vehicles and digital twins on the ramp, as seen in trials worldwide and at Miami Airport.

SES's expertise in autonomous vehicles and digital twins comes from James Blackwell, who previously worked on these technologies at Teague. Blackwell's experience will be crucial in SES's exploration of autonomous vehicles in the airport context.

The benefits of connectivity in airports are manifold. It can enhance cargo management, streamline airport operations, and support autonomous vehicles on the ramp. SES's 'Sovereign COTM mPOWERED' service, designed for government segments, can be adapted to provide mobile broadband to command posts and tactical vehicles in airports.

SES's acquisition of Intelsat, including FlexMove LEO, a land mobility solution operating via the Eutelsat OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) network, further strengthens its position in providing mobile connectivity. This service can cater to remote or temporary communication needs, such as emergency responses or temporary event coverage at airports.

SES's vision for connected autonomous vehicles on the ramp aligns with global airport trends. With its expertise in digital twins and autonomous vehicles, along with its mobile connectivity services, SES is well-positioned to transform airport operations. The company's exploration of 'comms on the move' solutions promises to enhance efficiency, safety, and flexibility in airport management.
