Secured school transportation in Enger, achieved in part by the Verkehrsgesellschaft Kreis Herford.
The Verkehrsgesellschaft Kreis Herford (VKH), a newly founded transportation company by Herford County, is set to drive and improve mobility offerings in the interests of citizens and climate and environmental protection. The company plans to take over the concession for school bus line 463 starting with the new school year, and aims to shape mobility offerings more in line with the needs of Herford County's citizens.
The company's goal is to increase the use of public transport and to reach new target groups. To achieve this, they plan to use emission-free vehicles in the future and acquire over 30 buses by 2026. These buses will be gradually integrated into the timetable bundles for which the concessions are due to expire.
Line 463, currently covered by four buses on a total of five routes, runs via Enger-Siele, Enger-Herringhausen, and Enger-Oldinghausen. Three of the five routes are covered by subcontractors commissioned by the VKH, while the VKH itself covers two routes with a recently acquired bus. The city of Enger is pleased with the VKH's takeover of the concession for school bus line 463.
The VKH also plans to create a local connection by naming all its buses after the towns they serve. The first buses of the transportation company are expected to be on the roads in the county area from August 2026.
In addition to traditional bus services, the VKH also expects on-demand services such as car-sharing or autonomous vehicles to complement their mobility offerings. The employees of the transportation company are currently based in the county administration building, but will move into their own premises in the future.
Services operate before school starts and after school in the morning and afternoon. Line 463 transports students from the Municipal Realschule and Widukind-Gymnasium to and from school every day. A new bus was procured by the transport company as part of the concession takeover and was inaugurated at the Widukind Gymnasium in Enger.
The VKH was founded by the Kreis Herford at the beginning of 2024 and is expected to take over and shape the entire public passenger transport in the district. The company's mission is to drive and improve mobility offerings in the interests of citizens and climate and environmental protection, and to shape mobility offerings more in line with the needs of Herford County's citizens.
