So, You Wanna Be a Ferry Pilot? Let's Fly Through the Rules.
- Thirty, Fly for Forty-Two! On your 40th birthday, you aced the 3rd class medical test. The question now is, how long is your new ticket valid? Your medical is good for the remainder of this month, plus the following 24 calendar months (2 years).
- Night Owl Flight Rules. Fancy a night flight with a friend? You'll need to meet certain requirements to carry passengers. For night takeoffs and landings, you must complete at least 3 takeoffs and 3 landings to a full stop between 1 hour after and 1 hour before sunrise. You're only short by one landing, so you're not night current for carrying passengers yet.
- Idle Time Gone Aviate! You nailed your private pilot checkride! You might be wondering when you'll need your first flight review to continue flying as the big boss. According to FAR 61.56, you can't act as PIC unless you've had a flight review (endorsement) within 24 calendar months. There are some exceptions for additional certificates and ratings, so check the full FAR 61.56 for the details.
- Why Split the Gas, but Not the Fees? You can take a load off when it comes to splitting airport expenses. FAR 61.113 (c) lets you divide airport expenditures equally (pro-rata), so you can ask your friends to chip in for more than just gas.
Scenario Assessment: Flying Legality in Six Situations Examined
No Logbook, No Problem? If you leave your logbook at home while flying as a private pilot, fear not! You still need your pilot certificate and medical to be legal in the cockpit.
