Watch Out for New Credit Scams!

Scammers are finding creative ways to bypass the credit self-ban system introduced in Russia on March 1, 2025. One common method involves calls from people posing as tax service employees or bank officials, claiming there's a debt or error in the credit history. They pressure victims into lifting the self-ban immediately, threatening penalties if not complied with.

Criminals may also pose as government officials, promising preferential loans, subsidies, or social payments if the self-ban is removed. Keep in mind, no legitimate government or financial institution will ever request a self-ban lift over the phone.

Another scheme to be aware of is the reissuing of SIM cards to deceased individuals. While there's currently no specific information on this happening in Russia, it's essential to understand the potential risks associated with SIM card fraud.

Fraudsters can acquire SIM cards using stolen or fake identities, exploiting vulnerable SIM card registration processes. They might also perform SIM swapping, tricking telecom operators into transferring a victim's phone number to a new SIM card in their possession. Using a deceased individual's identity to obtain a SIM card can lead to identity theft, financial fraud, legal issues, and security risks.

Always protect your personal information and be cautious of any unsolicited calls or messages requesting sensitive information. If you suspect a scam, don't hesitate to report it to the appropriate authorities. Stay vigilant and stay safe!

  1. Be wary of individuals falsely claiming to be from financial institutions or government agencies, offering business loans or general-news subsidies in exchange for lifting a self-ban on credit.
  2. Fraudsters could exploit the vulnerabilities in SIM card registration processes, posing as deceased individuals to re-obtain SIM cards, leading to potential identity theft, financial crime, and legal issues in both business and general-news sectors.
