Russian Drone Strikes Power Plant in Sumchyn, Leaving One Dead

On a fateful Monday, a Russian drone took aim at a hardworking crew's vehicle in the Sumy region, marking a tragic turn of events. The driver paid the ultimate price, leaving behind a grief-stricken community, while three others were left to grapple with their injuries.

The grim scene was confirmed by Oleg Hryhorov, the Chairman of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, via a poignant Facebook post. He stated, "The enemy's UAV attacked an energy workers' vehicle in the territory of the Sumy community. Preliminary, one person died."

As emergency services swarmed the incident site, it became clear that the deceased was a 44-year-old driver, and the three other victims were fellow workers. The details of the attack are under investigation, but it's been reported that the vehicle belonged to AO "Sumyoblenergo."

The Sumy region has been no stranger to conflict lately, with numerous attacks by Russian forces, utilizing missiles, drones, and other weapons. For instance, on May 14, 2025, a Russian missile strike hit an industrial facility in Sumy, claiming at least three lives and injuring nine more. On the same day, a Russian GAB strike in the Bilopillia community injured two civilians and ignited a fire. The following day, Russian forces launched a massive overnight drone attack on civilian infrastructure in a Sumy region village.

In the aftermath of these attacks, the Ukrainian authorities have been diligently documenting and responding to ongoing hostilities in the region, with the Ukrainian military taking part in repelling the attacks, including shooting down Russian drones. However, specific details about investigations into individual incidents would require official reports from Ukrainian authorities or military sources.
