Romanian Air Force to Conduct Low-Altitude Training Flights Nationwide
Starting from May 27th and ongoing until June 2nd, the Romanian Air Force will conduct low-altitude training exercises across the country's territory. The training sessions will encompass both conventional and supersonic flights, utilizing F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft at strategic locations[1].
This initiative aims to bolster the responsiveness and readiness of aeronautical personnel in diverse eventualities[2]. To assure minimal disturbance to the civilian populace, all air safety precautions and noise-mitigating measures will be implemented during the training sessions[2].
The Romanian Air Force continues to modernize its fleet, as demonstrated by the recent acquisition of two additional F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft from Norway on May 22nd, 2025. These jets have been housed at the 71st Air Base "General Emanoil Ionescu" in Campia Turzii, as announced by the Ministry of Defense[2]. As of present, eighteen of the thirty-two ordered aircraft have been delivered[2].
By the end of 2025, Romania aims to have three air bases equipped with F-16 fighter squadrons[2]. As an added effort to bolster combat capabilities, Romania reactivated the F-16 Training Center in November 2023[3]. This regional training facility serves not only Romanian pilots but also their allied counterparts, including Ukrainians. The center utilizes F-16 jets that will eventually become part of the Romanian Air Force, forming a fourth training squadron[3].
The rejuvenation of Romania's air force is part of a broader endeavor to align with NATO's objectives and support regional security endeavors[3][4].

The Romanian Air Force's modernization efforts extend beyond their training exercises, as evident in the acquisition of additional F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft from Norway. This move is significant not only for the Romanian industry but also for international finance, considering the cost of the aircraft and subsequent investments in infrastructure.
With the reactivation of the F-16 Training Center and three air bases equipped with F-16 fighter squadrons by the end of 2025, the Romanian Air Force is demonstrating its commitment to advancing the country's aerospace capabilities, thereby bolstering its role in regional security and NATO objectives.
