Roadway shutdown on A8 highway encompassing Pforzheim region from December 1st to 4th, 2023.
From December 1 to December 4, 2023, the Autobahn GmbH will carry out construction work on the A8 near Pforzheim, leading to a full closure of the highway in both directions. This work will affect the stretch between the Pforzheim-South and Pforzheim-North interchanges.
For traffic traveling westbound (towards Karlsruhe), vehicles will be redirected at the Pforzheim-North interchange onto the B10 federal road. They will pass through Pforzheim city centre and then rejoin the A8 at Pforzheim-South.
On the other hand, for traffic traveling eastbound (towards Stuttgart), vehicles will be diverted at the Pforzheim-South interchange onto the B10. They will pass through the Pforzheim urban area and re-enter the A8 at Pforzheim-North.
This detour via the B10 ensures access through Pforzheim city while the section of the A8 is closed for construction. Drivers are advised to follow the official signage and plan for additional travel time during this period.
Interregional traffic between the Leonberg motorway junction and the Walldorf motorway interchange will be detoured via the A81 and A6 motorways. The Autobahn GmbH has emphasized the importance of using the signposted detour routes to keep the burden on road users and residents as low as possible.
Regional traffic will be routed via existing demand detours during the closure. The detour towards Stuttgart will start and end at the Pforzheim-South interchange, passing through Wurmberg, Wiernsheim, Niefern-Oschelbronn, Mühlacker, Ötisheim, and Ölbronn-Dürrn. The detour towards Karlsruhe will start from the Pforzheim-South interchange and end at Pforzheim-North interchange.
Over the weekend, the Autobahn GmbH will likely carry out construction measures on the green bridge and at the new Sallenbuschweg bridge over the A8 at the Pforzheim service area. They will also perform asphalt and slope stabilization work in the area of the "Karlsruhe Hill".

The closures on the A8 near Pforzheim will impact not only the automotive industry's supply chain but also other industries relying on transportation, such as finance, as the detour via the B10 may cause delays.
During the construction on the A8, drivers should anticipate increased traffic on secondary roads like the B10 and other detoured routes, potentially heightening the demand for transportation services in Pforzheim city.
