Ripple potentially ceasing XRP escrow disbursements - Insights from conclusive data.

Ripple, the blockchain technology company, has not paused or ended its monthly XRP escrow releases but has delayed the timing of the August 2025 unlock. This controlled release, although unusual in timing, continues Ripple’s practice of managing supply and limiting market impact.

Historically, Ripple released 1 billion XRP tokens on the first of each month and immediately re-locked about 700 million tokens, allowing 300–400 million to enter circulation. However, no release occurred on August 1, sparking speculation that the monthly unlock might be paused or ended.

Approximately a week later, on August 9, Ripple conducted an unscheduled unlock of 1 billion XRP in three tranches. This was confirmed by blockchain tracking and Ripple’s CTO, David Schwartz. The escrow system waits for an external transaction trigger, so tokens can be unlocked on a different day than the ledger’s scheduled date.

Before the August 9 unlock, Ripple re-locked 700 million XRP on August 1, increasing escrow holdings from 35 billion to 36.6 billion XRP. This suggests behind-the-scenes escrow activity and a delayed release rather than a full pause.

Such irregularities have occurred earlier in 2025 and 2024, with Ripple later compensating any smaller than expected monthly unlocks. The August 2025 deviation does not appear to be a system error but a possible shift in timing strategy.

As of now, 36.6 billion XRP remain in Ripple's escrow holdings, marking the first time since January 2018 that no XRP has been released from escrow in a month.

The delay in the August 2025 unlock has sparked speculation within the XRP community. The increased XRP holdings in escrow may indicate behind-the-scenes activity by Ripple.

Meanwhile, technical charts show signs of weakening momentum for XRP. The rise in XRP price may be tempered by whale selling pressure, suggesting a cautious short-term outlook. However, XRP's price has risen by over 4% in the last 24 hours, reaching around $3.07, due in part to the news of the paused unlocks.

Large XRP holders have sold around 640 million XRP, worth nearly $1.91 billion, since July 9, according to CryptoQuant. It is uncertain if Ripple has reached the end of its planned XRP unlocks.
