Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis & Bergisch Gladbach Expand 'Heating Right with Wood' Campaign

The Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis and Bergisch Gladbach are expanding their 'Heating Right with Wood' campaign due to high demand. The campaign offers an approximately 90-minute online course teaching efficient wood heating techniques, reducing cleaning effort, and saving participants around 30% of their firewood consumption.

The course, offered by the Ofenakademie, is free but places are limited. Interested participants can register at https://www.ofenakademie.de/rheinisch-bergischer-kreis/. Even experienced fireplace users can gain new insights, such as the technique of lighting the chimney fire from above. The course covers proper use of fireplaces, leading to significant emission reductions, as explained by Hussein Al-Gassani from Bergisch Gladbach's Energy Planning department.

Upon passing the final test, participants receive a fireplace certificate and a personalized environmental certificate. The campaign has received positive feedback, with 9 out of 10 participants in the previous campaign recommending the fireplace certificate to others, according to Natalie Tawamba Tessa from the same department. The idea for the chimney certificate offer was brought to the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis by local energy or environmental authorities collaborating with the Ofenakademie. Additional information on the fireplace certificate can be obtained from Ann-Kathrin Popp and Martin Beulker, the climate protection officers of the Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis. Another 80 vouchers are being offered for the fireplace certificate online seminars.

The expansion of the 'Heating Right with Wood' campaign aims to educate more residents on efficient wood heating techniques, reducing firewood consumption and emissions. With positive participant feedback and free registration, the campaign encourages everyone to learn and adopt these practices.
