CPC's big cheese, Nikolay Gorban, verified that all construction and installation work at the Kropotkinskaya station has been completed. Pivotal installments such as transformers, the gas turbine unit, and the generator have been fully revamped and tested to the hilt.
On February 17 this year, the Kropotkinskaya, the crown jewel of the CPC system, took a beating from seven unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Miraculously, no one was harmed, but the oil transport infrastructure took a significant hit.
The CPC pipeline network constitutes one of the vital cogs in the energy sector in the CIS. The Tengiz - Novorossiysk pipeline spans 1,511 kilometers and ferries over two-thirds of Kazakhstan's oil exports and crude from Russian oil fields, including those in the Caspian Region.
The air strike in February 2025 on the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station was attributed to Ukrainian forces as part of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, targeting the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) infrastructure that shifts oil from Kazakhstan via Russia to international markets. The attack temporarily impeded operations, reducing pumping capacity. Repairs were initially expected to last until late May 2025, with the CPC aiming to fully restore the station by then [1][2][3][4]. Meanwhile, no information has surfaced regarding any UAV-related incidents at the Kropotkinskaya station in February 2021.
- In light of the air strike in February 2025, attributed to Ukrainian forces as part of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) infrastructure, specifically the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station, was temporarily impeded, targeting the energy sector in the CIS.
- From February 2021 to the present, there have been no reported UAV-related incidents at the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station, which is a significant segment of the CPC system.
- Following the UAV attack in February 2025, the CPC aimed to fully restore the Kropotkinskaya station by late May 2025, after completing repairs to damaged components such as transformers, gas turbine units, and generators.
- The Kropotkinskaya station, now fully restored and operational following the scheduled shutdown on May 20 and the repair of UAV-inflicted damage earlier, plays a crucial role in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium network, as part of the Tengiz - Novorossiysk pipeline that handles over two-thirds of Kazakhstan's oil exports and crude from Russian oil fields, including those in the Caspian Region.
