Renewable Energy Surges Globally, Overtaking Coal in 2025

Renewable energy is surging worldwide, driving record growth and significantly reducing carbon emissions. In 2025, renewables overtook coal in global electricity generation for the first time.

Since 2019, the deployment of renewable energy sources has prevented an estimated 2.6 billion tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere annually. This trend is set to continue, with renewables forecast to meet over 90% of global electricity demand growth by 2030.

In the U.S., solar and wind power combined accounted for 16% of total electricity in 2024. Meanwhile, global renewable capacity is expected to more than double by 2030.

Vietnam's province of Vinh Long is also embracing the renewable energy revolution. It plans to expand wind power by 2,900 MW and solar by 150 MW by 2030, aiming to become a major renewable energy center.

Electric vehicles are projected to drive 45% of the anticipated increase in renewable energy consumption in the transportation sector over the next five years. This growth is supported by a rise of 50% in renewable energy consumption in the sector by 2030.

The shift towards renewable energy is accelerating, with record growth and significant emissions reductions. As electric vehicles become more prevalent and countries like Vietnam invest in renewable infrastructure, the future of energy looks increasingly clean.
