Unauthorized Parking and Pedestrian Crossings Persist on Ploshchad Kirova, Yekaterinburg

Police in Yekaterinburg are urging authorities to take action against drivers who park their vehicles in the middle of Ploshchad Kirova and pedestrians who cross the road unsafely. In a recent commission meeting, Director of Transportation Igor Oschepkov discussed the issue, citing it as a major safety concern.

The current situation is exacerbated by drivers and passengers crossing the street improperly, creating a dangerous environment for traffic accidents. To address this, the department of transport has proposed a reconstruction of Ploshchad Kirova, including the construction of a raised island similar to that of Ploshchad 1-oy Piatiletki for vehicles to park legally.

While it remains unclear if the problem of unauthorized parking can be resolved, the commission will submit a petition to Mayor Alexey Orlov for the asphalt on Ploshchad Kirova to be raised to sidewalk level.

In addition, four speed bumps will be installed to combat drifting cars by the Suvorov Military School and the Institute of Metalurgy and Metallurgy Ural Federal University. Speed limits will be reduced to 20 kilometers per hour, and funds for the installation of raised policemen are currently being sought in the budget. Changes are expected to take effect in a month following the budget revision, which is scheduled for June.

According to the State Automobile Inspection, 14 traffic accidents have been reported on Mir Avenue, number 19, from 2024 to the present day. This represents a decrease from the previous year, with 11 accidents in total, and a significant decrease from the beginning of 2023, with just 3. Last year saw 74 traffic rule violations, whereas this year has seen 56.

In an effort to mitigate these issues and reduce traffic accidents, authorities are encouraged to implement a comprehensive approach that includes a safety audit, infrastructure improvements, enhanced enforcement, public education, community engagement, and regular monitoring of progress. By taking action, Yekaterinburg can create a safer environment for all road users and reduce the number of traffic accidents on Ploshchad Kirova.

The department of finance is considering allocating funds for the installation of raised policemen to combat drifting cars, as part of a comprehensive approach to reduce traffic accidents and improve road safety on Ploshchad Kirova. In line with this, the news industry should report on the progress of these initiatives and their impact on the transportation industry, particularly it's safety records.
