Get ready to witness the adrenaline rush of a lifetime, as the world's most lavish SUVs are smashing the 300 km/h barrier. But you'll need more than just muscle to achieve these breathtaking speeds—electric assistance adds that extra kick! Let's take a look at the anarchic heavyweights making headlines.

When Montana's speed limit is 80 miles per hour (about 130 km/h), Bentley's Markus Thiel barrels past, leaving speed cameras in the dust. Seated behind the wheel of the new Bentley Bentayga Speed, Thiel tastefully flouts the laws of inertia, demonstrating just how swiftly and athletically a hefty SUV can roar: at ranches adjacent to the Yellowstone National Park, far from the prying eyes of speed cameras.

Thiel is just one member of a band of sports car manufacturers using the SUV segment to maintain credibility, including Bentley, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin—all pushing the boundaries of their speedy SUVs' performance. The Bentayga Speed, however, has some stiff competition.

Fast and Fierce: The Electric Giants

To accelerate beyond 300 km/h, manufacturers are investing heavily, boasting up to 600+ horsepower. Bonus points if you can do it without electrification. Here's a quick rundown of the top dogs on the block:

Bentley Bentayga Speed

Bentley's last non-electric "Speed" model revs up a 4.0-liter V8 engine, cranking out a robust 650 PS, 850 Nm of torque, and a stirring new sports exhaust for a 3.6-second sprint time and a top speed of 310 km/h. The price? A cool €220,800 to start, with the Speed version setting you back €268,800.

Ferrari Purosangue

This SUV shares its dozen cylinders with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan but moves with lightning speed. Ferrari owes its clientele more than sluggish paces and reaches up to 312 km/h with its 725 PS, 716 Nm engine. The Purosangue boasts a relatively light weight of 2033 kg, making it the lightest of the heavyweights and, not surprisingly, one of the most expensive SUVs at around 400,000 euros.

Aston Martin DBX S

The DBX S becomes a supercharged SUV this summer with an upgraded 4.0-liter V8 engine that reaches 727 PS. While this increase in power is relatively modest compared to other manufacturers' improvements, Aston Martin promises a more engaging driving experience through lightweight construction, refined tuning, and a new focus on the sound. The top speed stays at 310 km/h, but who needs more for a heart-stopping ride?

Lamborghini Urus

Lamborghini's Urus defies expectations and dashes past the 300 km/h benchmark in all three versions, despite its hefty weight of at least 2150 kg. The base Urus S, with its 4.0-liter V8 engine, delivers 666 PS, sprints to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and reaches 305 km/h. The Performante is slightly faster with the same power, needing 3.3 seconds and reaching 306 km/h. The Urus SE plug-in hybrid rips through the standard sprint in 3.4 seconds and touches 312 km/h, leaving other SUVs trailing in its dust.

Porsche Cayenne Turbo SE

Porsche and Audi don't quite make the cut when it comes to speeding giants, but they aim to catch up. The Porsche Cayenne, a SUV with an air of understated reserve, needs the Weissach package for the Turbo SE coupe to achieve speeds above 300 km/h. With a slight makeover, it sprints to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and tops out at 305 km/h.

Though BMW and Mercedes are denied entry to this exclusive speed club, stay tuned for updates on the upcoming releases from these esteemed manufacturers. It's an electrifying race to the finish!
