Rail service disruptions along the Rhine river

In the Rheingau region, a persistent personnel problem at VIAS GmbH has led to a chronic supply gap in the local public transport system, causing significant disruptions on the RB10 line. This has resulted in regular cancellations and timetable changes, affecting students and trainees who rely on the RB10 as their primary means of commuting.

Despite scheduled trains running early in the morning until late at night, concerns have been raised about the consistency of service and the availability of replacement transport during disruptions. Criticisms have been levelled at VIAS for the unreliability of the service, but specific responses from the company are not readily available in the search results.

To address the short-term disruptions, VIAS plans to deploy more so-called "rental train drivers" in the coming months. In an attempt to improve the overall reliability, the company has secured the services of 7 temporary train drivers and 3 newly qualified train drivers, bringing a total of 10 additional train drivers to ensure more consistent operations.

However, it's important to note that the night-time replacement traffic by bus is not due to a personnel problem that has existed in a signal box for over a year, as some might assume. Instead, it's a result of planned construction work by the railway.

The Young Union in the district has expressed concern about the situation, demanding reliable operation of the RB10 from the first school day after the holidays. They are calling for clear communication about cancellations and replacement offers, as well as a continuous replacement traffic by train for all cancelled connections.

County Administrator and Transportation Commissioner Sandro Zehner has set the benchmark for improved operational safety and reliability as the start of the new school term. He expects improvements in traffic stability and better communication to passengers.

Unfortunately, an adjustment of the timetable outside school and commuter times is still necessary until September 26, resulting in continued cancellations of individual journeys, particularly during off-peak hours. A duty roster concept has been developed with the works council and employees for more flexible deployment of train drivers.

Finn Weschbach, a former student in Eltville-Rauenthal, has personally experienced the challenges of short-term train cancellations that made planning impossible, particularly during the day. Nicolas Kunz, chairman of the Young Union, has stated that unreliable trains and insufficient replacement traffic are "untenable" and "unacceptable."

Official communications or local transport authority announcements beyond these search results would provide more precise recent statements or measures from VIAS regarding the situation on the RB10 line.
