PT PLN, ACWA Power, and Pupuk Indonesia Team Up for Green Hydrogen in Indonesia by 2025
PT PLN (Persero), ACWA Power, and PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) have joined forces to develop green hydrogen and ammonia in Gresik, East Java. The collaboration, signed under a Joint Development Study Agreement (JDSA), aims to create clean energy solutions in Indonesia.
The project, set to be completed by 2025, will utilise the existing Petrokimia Gresik facility. Indonesia, seeking to become a leader in green energy and achieve net-zero emissions by 2060, sees this collaboration as a significant step.
The Indonesian government, committed to developing green industry clusters, supports this initiative. It may also partner with international institutions like HyET for hydrogen technologies and Toyota for green hydrogen ecosystems, along with European and Asian clean energy supporters. PLN, ACWA Power, and Pupuk Indonesia are dedicated to completing the joint study by the end of 2023.
Green hydrogen, obtained from clean sources without carbon emissions, will be used as a raw material for green ammonia. This can then be utilised as fuel for power plants, transportation, and fertilizer production.
The JDSA between PLN, ACWA Power, and Pupuk Indonesia marks a significant move towards Indonesia's green energy goals. The project, expected to be completed by 2025, could pave the way for international partnerships and clean energy advancements in the country.
