Price alterations for tariffs and tickets in Westphalia beginning 1st August 2025
WestfalenTarif Introduces Digital and Simplified Ticketing System
Effective August 1, 2025, the WestfalenTarif will undergo a significant transformation, moving towards a more digital and simplified ticketing system. The price adjustments, which vary slightly by region, are aimed at maintaining and improving the bus and rail services in Westfalen [1][2].
The new ticket price structure includes various price levels such as 7W, 8W, 9W, and 10W. Single and monthly tickets range approximately from €29.80 to €53.10 for single fares and up to about €119.40 for monthly tickets depending on zones [3][4].
Key updates in ticket availability and discontinuations:
- All tickets requiring validation through ticket validators (Entwerter) will be discontinued in most regions starting August 1, 2025, due to the planned gradual removal of validators from buses, trains, and platforms by November 1, 2025 [1][2].
- Instead, for occasional travelers, the new options will be the digital Handy-Tarif "eezy.nrw", Tagesticket24 (day ticket for up to 5 people), and a simplified EinzelTicket (single ticket) without the need for validation [1][2][5].
- Exceptions where tickets with validation are still accepted include the districts of Kreis Unna, Bocholt, and the city of Paderborn [2].
- The 90-minute ticket in Münster and Hamm will be offered as a chip card [2].
- Existing tickets requiring validation remain usable until October 31, 2025, after which they will no longer be valid [2].
- For frequent travelers, subscription tickets (Abo-Tickets) remain the best and stable option.
- The price for the regular Deutschlandticket remains unchanged at €58 [2].
In addition to these changes, the Westfalen-South Transport Association is focusing on simplification, clarity, and transparency in its ticket range. The 9 am Monthly Ticket Westfalen-South, Apprentice Ticket Westfalen-South, and FlexiTicket Year (sliding) Westfalen-South will no longer be available from August 1, 2025 [6].
The price increase is a response to the rising costs of public transport, particularly wage costs and infrastructure investments. Validators in buses, trains, and at train stations will be removed starting November 1, 2025 [7].
In some cities, new discounted tickets are being introduced. For instance, in Bad Lippspringe, the 1-Euro-Ticket is being introduced, and the EinzelTicket Online will be introduced throughout the Hochstift - a discounted ticket priced like a 4-ticket validation in price stages 0H to 6H [8].
The WestfalenTarif will become more digital, simple, and transparent, providing a more convenient and efficient travel experience for its users.

In the new digital and simplified WestfalenTarif system, occasional travelers can opt for the digital Handy-Tarif "eezy.nrw", Tagesticket24, or a simplified EinzelTicket, catering to the growing need for a more digitized transportation industry. Furthermore, the finance sector will see changes as rising costs in public transport, such as wage costs and infrastructure investments, will necessitate a price increase for WestfalenTarif tickets from August 1, 2025.
