The New York State Department of Transportation has announced lane closures on I-690 westbound in Syracuse as part of the ongoing I-81 viaduct reconstruction project.

Starting from Wednesday, August 6, and continuing until August 19, I-690 westbound will be reduced to one lane between Exit 14 (Teall Avenue) and Exit 13 (Townsend Street/Downtown). This closure will take place during weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Simultaneously, I-690 westbound will also be reduced to one lane between Exit 11 (West St) and Exit 10 (Geddes St) during the same timeframe, from August 6 to August 13.

These closures are intended to facilitate bridge work as part of the Interstate 81 Viaduct Project. The schedule is weather-dependent and may change based on conditions.

It's worth noting that earlier in the week, from August 4 to August 8, lane reductions on I-690 eastbound (between Exit 9 and Exit 11) took place. However, this article focuses on the upcoming westbound closures.

Motorists are advised to plan their travels accordingly and expect delays during these hours. For the latest updates on traffic conditions, visit the New York State Department of Transportation's website or follow their social media channels.

The ongoing I-81 viaduct reconstruction project in Syracuse, not just involving transportation, also includes finance as the project requires funding. The industry of public-transit could potentially be impacted due to potential delays and rerouting of traffic on I-690 westbound.
