The train journey between Prague and Berlin is set for an exciting transformation, as the Czech Railways (České dráhy - CD) announced the arrival of new Comfort-Jet trains starting from July 26, 2023.

These modern trains, capable of reaching speeds of up to 230 km/h, will accommodate around 100 more passengers and more bicycles than the current trains. This increase in capacity will undoubtedly enhance the travel experience for passengers on this popular route.

The Euro-City connection EC 172/173 Hungaria, composed of Hungarian carriages, will continue to operate. However, the much-loved "Knödel Express" train service between Prague and Berlin is ending. Despite this, the traditional dining cars will not be scrapped but will instead be used on Czech domestic connections in the future.

The head of the Czech Railways, Michal Krapinec, hinted that some of the familiar services from the "Knödel Express" will continue in some of the new trains. The original dining cars will continue to operate on three train pairs: EC 378, EC 170, and EC 258.

The departure times from Prague Central Station for these trains are 10:28, 16:28, and 20:28 respectively. In the reverse direction from Berlin to Prague, the corresponding train numbers are EC 171, EC 379, and EC 259. The arrival times in Berlin for these trains are 14:43, 20:43, and 00:57 respectively.

The other trains on the Prague-Berlin route will be served by the Comfort-Jets. The existing carriages will be replaced by these new trains, marking a significant step towards modernizing the train connections between these two cities.

The new Comfort-Jet trains are part of the modern Nightjet service, promising a comfortable and efficient travel experience for passengers. This information was confirmed by the Czech Railways in a recent press release, signalling a new era in train travel between Prague and Berlin.
