Locally-sourced goods are all the rage now, and the concept of "gastronomic patriotism" is resonating with both businesses and consumers.

- Olga, fill us in on the details of your operation. How long have you been running, and what's changed since then?

We specialize in the cultivation of oyster mushrooms. We made our market debut in 2017. To begin with, our clientele consisted of small wholesalers, markets, and even monasteries in Nizhny Novgorod. Mushroom cultivation is becoming increasingly popular, and there's no shortage of demand. Over the past four years, we've achieved some significant milestones, expanding our reach to federal and regional retail chains. We've refocused our efforts on those chains, as they offer the most stable market for producers nowadays.

- X5 caught your eye, I take it?

X5 Retail Group stands tall as the largest retailer, boasting a diverse array of store formats - hypermarkets, supermarkets, and convenience stores. As manufacturer representatives, we're glad to have such a partner by our side, helping us weather the turbulent markets and shoulder logistics costs to trading points. In return, we take care of production and delivery to the RDC. Another major perk of partnering with X5 is their unparalleled punctuality with payments.

Collaboration kicked off in August 2020. Their diligent employees are a joy to work with, always ready to offer guidance and support.

Now, let's talk about logistics. Your product, oyster mushrooms, can be finicky regarding transportation and storage. I guess that's where the occasional hiccups come in.

Emergencies happen, but with X5's understanding and responsiveness, we swiftly resolve any issues, even if they arise after business hours.

- What are X5's top requirements for any potential supplier? Is it difficult to make the cut as a supplier for such a heavyweight retailer?

If you deliver a high-quality product at market price, there's no reason to worry. As long as you can meet their standards, there's no cause for concern.

- Did the X5 team provide any insights on packaging, marketing support, or logistics?

Absolutely! As soon as we signed the contract, our dedicated manager shared extensive information on packaging our products, coordinated our documentation with their quality control department, and even showed us the ropes of navigating the complex world of supply chains.

- Take us down the memory lane. How has this partnership impacted your business and overall growth?

Partnering with X5 sent our turnover soaring by a staggering four times, with plenty of room for further expansion. Our commitment to upholding our end of the bargain allowed us to extend our reach even to Moscow, Yaroslavl, and Kirov distribution centers.

- What did you gain from partnering with the biggest player in the game?

While we're not in every federal network yet, our restricted reach is mainly due to our current production limitations, which we plan to address by setting up additional facilities. Thanks to our fruitful partnership with X5, we're looking to expand our product line by the end of the year, venturing into the production of green onions and zucchinis.
