Onshore gas processing initiative commences for Dorra Field's output, led by KGOC

In a significant move for Kuwait's oil and gas sector, the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) has announced the initiation of a project to construct an onshore gas processing plant. The plant, slated to be built near the Al-Zour refinery, will process up to 632 million cubic feet of gas per day and have the capacity to process 88,900 barrels per day of condensates.

KGOC is expected to issue the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) tender for the project in September. The tender will cover various packages, including Package 1, which involves seven platform installations and internal pipelines, Package 2A, encompassing surface production units and corrosion-resistant piping, Package 2B, focusing on gas compression platforms, accommodation, and main transmission pipelines, and Package 3, pertaining to the onshore gas processing plant itself. Bids for Packages 2A, 2B, and 3 are due by July 31.

The Dorra field, located in the neutral zone between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, will supply the gas to the plant via a pipeline. The Dorra field, estimated to contain 20 trillion cubic feet of gas and 310 million barrels of oil, is a significant resource for Kuwait's energy sector.

KGOC has secured licensed technology agreements with Honeywell UOP (USA) and Shell Catalysts & Technologies (UK) for the acid gas removal unit and sulfur recovery unit, respectively. The French firm Technip Energies is handling the front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the project.

Potential bidders for the offshore work include Lamprell (Saudi/UAE), Larsen & Toubro (India), McDermott (USA), NMDC (UAE), and Saipem (Italy). However, as of July 2025, no current public details are found on KGOC’s onshore gas processing plant construction timeline, EPC tender progress, technology deals, or involved parties.

For the most accurate and detailed updates, it is recommended to consult direct KGOC or Kuwait Petroleum Corporation releases, or specialized industry reports from reputable energy news and consultancy services.

  1. The KGOC project, aimed at constructing an onshore gas processing plant, will require finances from various sectors, considering the extensive packages involved such as Package 1, 2A, 2B, and 3.
  2. The Dorra field, containing a substantial amount of gas and oil, will contribute significantly to the industry by supplying gas to the onshore gas processing plant, a part of Kuwait's oil and gas sector.
